Despite the recent creation of the company in 2017, our technology is the result of more than 20 years of experience in the offshore renewable energy sector. Carlos Casanovas started working on the concept in 2012 while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2017, together with Alex Raventos, both co-founders filed the patent and incorporated the company. Since then, we have been advancing fast in the technology development and have raised private investment as well obtained prizes, funding, and recognition from leading such as Innoenergy, H2020 program, EIC Accelerator, CDTI, ENISA, or ACCIO.
The company is very proud of having attracted top talent from diverse backgrounds. Our team is composed of accomplished professionals in the fields of wind energy, mechanical, electrical, structural, aeronautical and naval engineering, strategy and business advisory. We have studied in leading institutions such as the MIT, Singularity University, Imperial College London or INSEAD as well as worked in top companies and research centers in the wind and offshore energy sector.

Alex Raventos

CEO & Co-Founder

Alex (GSP at Singularity University, Executive Master at MIT-Portugal and Industrial Engineer from UPC) worked as an expert on techno-economic analysis of new offshore technologies before co-founding X1 Wind. He has more than 10 years of experience in offshore renewables, being Head of the Economic Analysis Department at WavEC (PT, 2009-15), New Programs Coordinator at Bluewater (NL, 2014-15) and founding its own consultancy Inn2Grid (2014), having raised more than 10 million Euros in public funding. Before that, he also worked in the development of solar PV projects at Abencis (2007-09).

Carlos Casanovas

CTO & Co-Founder

Carlos (M. Sc. at MIT and Industrial Engineer from UPC) developed the X1 Wind concept while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, 2012-2014). He has extensive experience as Dynamic Analysis Engineer in offshore wind, having worked on Adwen (Gamesa/Siemens) on their AD8-180 8MW offshore wind turbine (2016-17) as well as in Alstom Wind (2007-12), leading the drive train design of HALIADE 6 MW offshore turbine. He also worked at Bluewater (NL, 2014-15) where he created advanced simulation models for integrated tidal turbine-platform analysis as well as participating in the assembly, anchoring and installation of their Bluetec prototype.

João Neves

Chief Commercial & Strategy Office (CCO)

Joao leads our strategy and business development activities. He brings around 10 years of experience in business and strategy advisory, mostly for the Boston Consulting Group in locations such as Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He holds an MBA from INSEAD, an Executive Masters in Sustainable Energy Systems, and an MSc in Civil Engineering.

Iuliu Prepelita

Naval Architecture Manager

Iuliu leads the Naval Architecture team overseeing all phases of structural design and stability calculations. He brings a broad experience having worked for Rolls-Royce Marine and having founded Seanaptic. He holds a BSc in Naval Architecture and an MSc in Aeronautics from Imperial College London with a focus on FEA and CFD software development.

Maria Vergés

Systems Engineering Manager

Maria takes part in the development and design of different components, and supports the lead team in project management activities. She has previous experience as an energy efficiency engineer at Veolia and holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering with a Double Degree by the UPC and the TUM.

Adrián Oliva

Electrical & SCADA Manager

Adrian is responsible for the electrical and controls-related systems of the platform development and grid integration. He has several years' experience in CENER, working in grid integration, microgrids and power conversion of wind turbines. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering by the UPM.

Jorge Casanovas

Offshore Construction Manager

Jorge is responsible for the planning and execution of the construction, assembly, installation and operational activities. He brings more than 10 years' experience in operations and project management of large civil projects. He is a MSc in Civil Engineer and also holds a MSc in Marine Renewable Energies Harnessing.

Ignacio Castelló

Loads Engineer Manager

Ignacio supports the engineering team through the loads assessment, dynamic analysis of the structure and model validation. He has previous experience as wind turbine loads engineer working for GE. He holds a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering by the Technical University of Madrid.

Javier García Cervilla

Mechanical Engineer Manager

Javier develops the mechanical components of the passive yaw system. He has broad experience in pitch and yaw systems for wind turbines, bringing +10 years of experience having worked for OEM’s like Alstom and GE. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering specialized in Mechanical Engineering from UPC.

Silvia Fontanet

Finance & Administration Manager

Silvia is responsible for financial supervision and control as well as accounting management. She has previous experience in the management of renewable companies working at Renovalia as an International Financial Controller. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the UB, and a Master's Degree in Economic and Financial Management.
